Mapping LG TVs Via USB

Full instruction with pictures can be found Here.

To create a Map for the LG TVs you can use either the FTG file manager or the online map too. To use this you will need to navigate to the following URL or use the LG FTG Software depending on the age and model of the TV:

 http://cct.procentric.tv/

  • After creating a map using the FTG File Manager program and loading the map onto a thumb drive, access the menu to tell the TV to download your map.
  • To do this, turn the TV on and open the menu. Once the menu is on the screen, select either the briefcase or the lock symbol, depending on which menu you have. Repeatedly press 7 until the clone and update menu appears.
  • The bottom of the list has an option reading “import clone” or “Teach to TV”. This is the option that will allow you to download the map from your thumb drive to the TV.

Exporting a Map from LG TV’s to USB

In order to export a channel map from a LG TV you will need to first access the clone and update menu from the TV. To do this follow the following steps:

  • Insert a blank USB drive into the USB port on the back of the TV
  • Turn the TV on
  • Press the menu button on the remote bringing up the TV’s normal menu
  • Highlight the Lock or briefcase symbol but do not enter it
  • On the remote press the 7 button repeatedly until the update/clone menu appears.
  • With the update/clone menu on the screen, on the remote press 9,8,7,6. Additional options will now appear
  • From the new options select either the “Export From TV” or “Learn from TV”
  • A menu will pop up and ask you what you would like to name the exported clone and will allow it to be numbered from 1-99. Just select the default option that appears and click continue.
  • The TV will now export the currently installed channel map and installer menu items to the thumbdrive.
    • From here you can either use the thumb drive to map other TV’s of the same model or use the LG mapping website listed above to read and or modify the existing map.
  • Some old models of LG TVs use a different method of resetting, and also have an additional step for saving mapped TVs. If you run into older models where the above method does not work, try the following:
  • Press the menu button repeatedly on the remote until the menu stays up or will no longer come up. Then press 9, 8, 7, 6, enter/ok
  • Navigate to line item “117 Fact Default.”
  • Enter the code 001 and press Enter/OK.
  • After the TV has reset and is on channel 2, press menu and perform a channel scan.
  • After the channels have been scanned, repeat Step 1.
  • Once inside the installer menu, stay on line 000 and enter 2, 5, 5, menu.
  • The TV will now flip through all scanned channels and lock them into memory.

Mapping LG TVs Via Pro:centric Server

  • After performing the steps above to reset the TV, turn the TV back on.
  • Wait for the setup wizard to launch and select “Next” using the remote.
  • Select “Next” on the new screen that appears.
  • Select “Manual Pro:centric”.
  • In the “Pro:centric Mode” field, select the configuration type for the Pro:centric server. This will usually be “GEM”, but can sometimes be “HTML.” If the Pro:centric is only being used to map TVs and no other features such as EPG will be used, select “Configuration Only.”
  • In the “Media Type” field, select the delivery method. Pro:centric can be delivered by RF or IP signal.
  • In the “Data Channel” field, select the channel the Pro:centric has been configured to. By default, this will be channel 75; however, the installer may have changed this to another channel if desired. If you are working with an IP delivery, this field will change to an “IP Address” and “Port Number” field.
  • After the data channel has been selected, the TV will take a moment to detect the Pro:centric server. Once it has been found, a signal strength reading and a signal quality reading will appear. Select the new button that appears allowing you to move on.
  • The TV will automatically download the map that has been designated for this TV and will indicate if it is able to successfully download on the screen. If the TV is unable to download from the server, reach out to James, Montana, Mark, or Paul to configure the server to work properly with the TV.
  • Once the TV has completed its download, it will restart automatically and will tune into the downloaded map upon restart.

Updating LG TVs Firmware and CPU

In order to update a TV’s Firmware and CPU software you will need to get the latest firmware/software from LG. Once this has been obtained you will need to create a folder on the USB you plan on using labeled “LG_DTV” once this folder has been created you may load the firmware/software into the folder.

Configuring LG TVs for use with a Pillow Speaker

When working in a hospital, you may need to configure TVs to work with a pillow speaker. To accomplish this, first see if the TV has the startup wizard. If the TV does not have the startup wizard, there should be a switch located on the back of the TV that allows the pillow speaker to control it.

If the TV has the startup wizard, use the Express Script to configure the TV for use with a pillow speaker. To accomplish this, perform the following steps:

  1. Factory reset the TV
  2. Turn the TV on and select Express Script when the startup wizard launches
  3. Select Next
  4. Configure any needed setting for the Pro:Centric server and select Next
  5. Select the desired tuning standards (most likely cable) and select Next
  6. Enable or disable any AUX ports the property would like and select Next
  7. Configure the speaker settings. By default, this will be Pillow, but you will normally need to change this to Pillow and TV, then select Next
  8. Set which brand of Pillow speaker you are using; ask the property for this information. The options are: Zenith (+12v), Philips (+5v), and RCA (-5v)
  9. Auto tune the TV to scan for the channels on the system. When this is complete, select Next
  10. Edit the channel list to remove any channels that should not be on the TV you are working on. For example, the breastfeeding channel only needs to be broadcast in the family birth wing of a hospital. Once you have edited the channel list, select Next
  11. Select whether you want the channels to display as logical numbers or physical numbers. Physical will show the channels as they are being broadcast. Logical will number the channels 2-xx in the order in which they appear. Not all TVs have this option, so you may not be able to make the channels appear the same across the property using this function
  12. Select Finish to have the TV save all of the above configurations and changes
